Maine Camps & Cottages, a division of House & Sun, Inc., supplies small super-insulated homes built of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) to our design or yours. House & Sun has been supplying SIPs for residential, commercial and institutional projects for over 35 years. SIPs are basically large panels that are constructed like a sandwich of various foam insulation cores between two outer layers of large (up to 8’ x 24’’) wood sheathing, typically Oriented Strand Board (OSB). This results in very strong panels that are like an I-beam in section with the foam core acting as the web and the wood sheathing acting as the flange. Our SIPs meet all National Building Codes for structural integrity.
SIPs yield high-performance building envelopes with energy savings well beyond conventional framing. SIPs provide a core of high R-value solid foam insulation which eliminates air spaces within the wall cavity. SIPs large size results in few air gaps, and reduced thermal bridging from fewer lumber connections. SIPs provide a virtually airtight envelope improving indoor air quality (IAQ) and comfort and creating healthier homes and businesses.
With the increasing need for affordable housing nationwide, our pre-cut SIP houses provide warm, comfortable, energy-saving homes at an affordable price. With current construction labor shortages and premium prices, our large pre-cut panels provide a solution by installing quickly and reducing labor costs.
We supply three different foam core options and many different panel thicknesses to offer our clients a wide range of R-Factors—insulation levels—to choose from. Whether you’re trying to meet or far exceed your State’s Energy Code we give you choices!
SIPs are twice as strong as stick framing in axial load and ten times stronger in shear. And they are 50-60% more energy saving. The large size of SIPs means SIP walls and roofs and even floors install quicker.
Maine Camps & Cottages provides Shop Drawings of our designs or yours for you to approve before any factory pre-cutting begins. The Shop Drawings show the complete panel layout including all window and door rough openings (R.O.’s) and all panel connections and details. Electric wire chases are provided for running your wires in the wall panels. Once you have approved the Shop Drawings the panels will be pre-cut and then delivered to your job site. We ship to all the lower 48 States and Canada.
